Bungie is bought out by Sony

In the past, there was already probably the biggest deal in the history of gaming, when Activision Blizzard was bought by Microsoft for $70 billion. Sony then decided to buy out Bungie for $3.7 billion and one wonders what impact this deal will have on the gaming industry.

PlayStation also wrote a tweet about it where it is made clear that this deal has been successfully concluded and that they welcome Bungie to the family.

Bungie is particularly known for the first Halo games, before handing over development to 343 Industries to devote themselves to Destiny. Anyone who was looking for a good shooter on the console and also prefers a close relationship between the community and the developer should say something to Bungie.

What’s happening with Destiny?

Some within the community have questioned if the Destiny franchise could become a PlayStation exclusive, to that Bungie wrote the following in their blog post regarding the acquisition:

We continue to take our destiny into our own hands. We will continue to publish independently and develop our games creatively. We will continue to run a unified Bungie community. Our games will continue to be where our community is, wherever they want to play.

With the support of SIE (Sony Interactive Entertainment), the most immediate change you’ll see is an acceleration of talent hiring across the studio to support our ambitious vision. If this appeals to you and you want to help us leave your mark on the universe, we’re hiring in all disciplines for Destiny 2 and for all new worlds beyond.

So, as from the past event, Bungie also remains independent for now and continues to publish their games for all platforms.
