Minecraft: The new world is just around the corner

While Minecraft version 1.17 unfortunately lacked many longed-for features and was postponed until the next update, the period for said update is now just around the corner and thus we can take a look at what the latest version has to offer. We will tell you how you can already enjoy the new world generation.

The new features of 1.18 at a glance

  • The worlds now generate between -64 and +320 instead of 0 and +256
  • 9 new biomes: including forests, mountain sheep and of course the huge partially flooded caves
  • Caves turn out more fancy with many new blocks like stalactites
  • Ore spawn rates and vein sizes have been revised and there are no exact heights on which excessive finds are made
  • Enemy mobs spawn only in total darkness

All changes can be found here in the patch notes.

Dive into the new worlds already now

If the uncertain time to the release is too long for you, you can already get an impression of the new highs and lows with the current snapshot “21w37a”.

In the Java version: Start Launcher > Select tab “Installations” > Activate “Developer versions” > The snapshot “21w37a” should now appear in the list of versions > Install and Play

In Bedrock Edition: Open Game Settings > Select Experiments tab > Activate Caves and Cliffs > Confirm Experimental Settings

Attention! Be sure to make backups of your world before starting old worlds (anything before the snapshot). Corrupt map files may occur in a few cases.

When is the time?

An exact date has not yet been announced. However, November and December (2021) were mentioned as the time frame, and many speculate on a release around or during Christmas. As soon as the exact date becomes known, we will announce it on our Discord in the Minecraft section.

With the new world generation and a possibility to take over our previous server map, we will also work on bringing our VAY server back to the start for the new version. Also stay tuned here on Discord if you are interested!
